Restored Hardwood Floor Lamp with Hand-Painted Shade

I found this lamp tired, damaged and buried under a thick yellow varnish, but there was beautiful hardwood underneath that deserved another life.

My husband restored the base, stripping it back and applying a light new finish to bring out the natural colour and grain. We repaired the original shade rather than replacing it, and I then hand-painted each illustration using acrylics with a soft watercolour technique.

This piece really represents what we love about restoration — taking something that might otherwise have been discarded, respecting what was already there, and turning it into something worth keeping.
